Our Trip to Disney

After months and months of eager anticipation we were able to travel to Disney World this past week. My mom went with us to help with the kids and have a little fun too. We had an amazing trip, and the weather could not have been any more perfect while we were there. We stayed in the Port Orleans French Quarter Disney Resort and visited the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Epcot. I have been to Disney 3 times prior to this trip, and I have learned to appreciate all of the planning that goes into taking kids to Disney World. It is no surprise that a trip to Disney can be rather expensive, but it really does help to plan out activities before you go because it is easy to get overwhelmed with all of the choices. Since I knew this would be Justin's and the kids' first trip to Disney, I wanted it to be really special for all of them, so I tried to make sure we did some things that everyone would enjoy...even me!
Day One- On Monday we arrived at our resort around 5:00 and got settled into our hotel room. It wasn't long at all before the kids were ready to go for a swim, so we put on our suits and headed to the pool. There was a great baby pool for Micah to play in, and Madeleine loved the serpent slide in the big pool. She climbed that thing about 150 times. I don't know what she was saying to the lifeguards and other adults in that section of the pool, but they were dying laughing. Honestly, I was scared to ask. After swimming for a while we got dressed and caught a boat from our resort to Downtown Disney. WOW! I had never been to this part of Disney World before. There were restaurants and shops galore! We had a great time walking around and just taking it all in. Madeleine even got lucky enough to be sprinkled with fairy dust as they were closing up the Bippity-Boppity Boutique. I am still trying to get the glitter out of her hair, but she loved it. By the time we got back to our hotel, we were all pretty exhausted, so we slept in a little the next morning before heading to the Magic Kingdom.
Day Two- At the Magic Kingdom we saw Chip and Dale right away upon entering, and Justin headed off to get our fast passes for Space Mountain. We were able to ride the Teacups and Race Cars before the crowds got too bad. Mom, Justin and Madeleine rode It's a Small World while Micah and I took a break. And, we all enjoyed the carousel and Mickey's Philharmonic as well as the Jungle Cruise. On Tuesday evening we ate supper at Cinderella's Royal Table with Cinderella, Prince Charming, the wicked step-mother and her step sisters. The actors playing these characters were a hoot, and Madeleine absolutely loved every second of the meal. Micah on the other hand was not at all amused by the life-like characters. The big fluffy or furry ones did not seem to bother him, but Cinderella and her crew freaked him out!
Day Three- On Wednesday we were able to go to breakfast at meet Tigger, Pooh, Alice and Mary Poppins. These characters were more Micah's speed. After breakfast we headed to the Animal Kingdom where we saw a fabulous stage production of Nemo and the Lion King. Also, we went on a safari ride and saw lots of cool animals. A giraffe crossed the road right in front of our jeep! Toward the end of our day at Animal Kingdom we were able to catch the parade. The costumes, dancing and parade vehicles were amazing. This lovely day ended with a birthday celebration dinner for Micah and Justin at a nice restaurant near our hotel. We had grown-up food and no characters. :)
Day Four- During our last day at Disney we toured Epcot which is my favorite of all the parks. We were able to ride all of the major rides. Madeleine even rode Test Track and Soarin' with me. She was such a brave girl, and it was so fun to be able to experience all of that fun stuff with her. She barely met the height requirement for some of the rides, but those killer Jones tall genes pushed her over the edge. While at Epcot we were able to get pictures with almost every Disney character.
Our trip home took a long time due to traffic issues on the interstate, but all in all it really was a great vacation. I have already started the laundry, and hopefully we can rest a bit on Saturday and Sunday before we get back in the routine on Monday morning. We took TONS of pictures, and I am sorting through all of them now to make a scrapbook for the kids. I selected some of my favorites for the slideshow below. Enjoy!
