Well, the big day is almost here. School supplies have been purchased. A new bookbag and lunch box have arrived in the mail. And, the new back to school clothes are ready to go. Our baby girl will begin her first day of kindergarten tomorrow, and as I type those words I have tears welling up in my eyes. When you have a baby people are constantly telling you how fast the time will go by, and you smile and nod. It seems like time passes so slowly at first because you are physically and emotionally exhausted from learning how to make space in your life for this new little person. But, soon enough your baby gets a little more independent and you do not have to do every little thing for her. You wake up one day and your baby can take a shower alone, go to the potty without being reminded and get a drink when they want it. The reality strikes that you really do not have a baby anymore. Knowing how fast the past five years have passed by make this new milestone of starting school even scarier. As a teacher I see kids go from little kindergarteners to rowdy fifth graders over night. It is almost like being in school makes time go even faster. God has given us an amazing little girl, and I just want to soak up every moment of this new phase of her life with her. I know she will love school, and I am very lucky to be in the same building with her all day long. But, it is going to be very hard tomorrow to watch that blonde head walk down the red hall. She is going to love school. Although my heart breaks to think of her growing up, I am so thankful for the precious little girl that she has become.
