Beach Babies

Since we had Memorial Day off this year, we decided to take a little beach excursion. We left on Friday night and drove to Florence and ate supper with mom and dad. Mama had a great Southern meal of fried pork chops and all the good stuff to go with it. We woke up early on Saturday. I packed a cooler, and we were off for the beach. Justin tried to find a hotel on Priceline with no luck, but he found a great deal on our AAA site. We stayed at the Towers on the Grove resort in Cherry Grove. It was just built last year, and it was super kid friendly. We were both very impressed with how efficient the staff was and how smoothly everything ran there. Our room was really nice and had a great view of the ocean---17th floor! We spent the morning playing in the pool. The only unfortunate mishap was that my beloved Flip video camera took a nose dive into the hotel lazy river, and my attempts to dive to save it were unsuccessful. I had some great video of Madeleine and Justin floating down the lazy river together, but you'll just have to form a mental image of that. We went out to the beach in the afternoon. For some reason being outside would put Micah right to sleep (after eating his fill of sand). I don't know if it was the sun or the sound of the waves, but the boy fell fast asleep. The baby beach tent was great. Last summer this was where Micah spent a good deal of our summer vacation. I highly recommend it to anyone taking a little one to the beach. Once they fall asleep it offers a nice place to lay them down out of the sun with ventilation. We ended the evening with going out for some yummy seafood at Duffy's. Micah got a little fussy waiting for his food, and a lady at the next table offered him a fry. I thought that was kind of funny. Luckily the waitress came with a handful of crackers. Oh yeah, that is tip #2...always travel with crackers in diaper bag when eating out with a baby. Try to ignore the lovely beach hair in the picture we took at the restaurant. All in all we had a fantastic weekend, and we are thinking of making it a new little tradition for our family.
