Week One- During our first week of break Micah had swim lessons at our neighborhood pool with one of the precious 2nd grade teachers from my school, Mrs. Lauren. He took his lessons with Will and Morgan Kate. All of these kiddos are pretty close in age. Each of their mamas taught 4th grade with me at some point. The weather for the lessons was RAINY, AWFUL and MISERABLE, but they all persevered along after a few tears. Micah definitely gained a lot of confidence about his abilities as a swimmer from his lessons, and he knows the basic strokes. I still would not let him near water without some watchful eyes around, but he is on the road to becoming a fish just like his sister.
Also, during this week Justin and I were able to attend a Google Tech conference for educators that was offered at one of our local high schools. We learned a lot and had a fun time hanging out together with all the other tech geeks. I am excited to try out some of the new things I learned this year with my students.
The biggest event of this first week of summer was that we welcomed a new family member into our home. After a lot of research and looking around at different types of dogs, we decided to use our money to adopt a dog from a local shelter. At first this proposition scared me a bit, but after visiting several shelters it became very clear to me that there were lots of great dogs that needed homes. Justin spent some time on Petfinder.com and ran across a cocker-mix named Shiloh that looked like just the type of dog for our family. We went to meet him at his foster home in Lexington and fell in love. He is precious with our kids and very easy-going. I am glad we pulled the trigger on the dog adoption because it has been great to watch the kids enjoy their new buddy.
