Project 1: Clean and organize garage...done! Thanks to our friend Rob for bringing the awesome shelving and storage unit, the garage looks very tidy, and it only took a year to make it happen.
Project 2: Put knobs and handles on kitchen cabinets and drawers. Thanks to Justin's drilling expertise and a good deal at Overstock.com this task was completed pretty quickly, and I love how something so little dressed up the kitchen.
Project 3: I put up new back splash in kitchen. I used a product called Facade from Lowe's. It was really easy to install and made a dramatic impact in the kitchen, not to mention the fact that the wall behind my stove area will look a lot cleaner.
Project 4: Bye, bye ugly brass...hello metallic oil rubbed bronze! Y'all, I am telling you this stuff is amazing. I really, really hated all of the gold handles and fixtures in my house, but I guess that was a common color to put in houses in the early 90s when this house was built. Little by little I am planning to work my way through all of the brass in the house. The big monster will be when I tackle the brass shower enclosure in our master bath. I think I will save that one for next summer. So, this is a project still in the works.
Project 5: My last big project was to work on our kitchen dining area. We have a galley style kitchen that has tons of great storage space, but I wanted to do something to separate the kitchen and dining areas. My first idea was to put up bead board paneling and chair rail molding; however, this was going to be pretty expensive and involve a lot of tools that we did not have. In reading on different DIY designer websites I learned about a textured bead board wallpaper that could be painted. I checked this product out at Lowe's and loved it. It was super easy to put up and paint. We added chair rail moulding and voila...dining area made new! Now that I know how to use this stuff, I am thinking about putting it up in our half bath area too.It looks fabulous!
I am leaving to go to a Mother-Daughter camp with Madeleine this weekend, and next week I am going a special anniversary trip with my honey followed by some beach fun with the Edisto crew. So, my home improvement bonanza will have to be put on hold for a bit. But, never fear! Paint colors for the dining room and half bath are already swirling in my head. Woo hoo!
