Edisto Beach 2009

After a wonderful summer full of traveling to visit with family and friends we had our grand finale last week at Edisto Beach. Every summer we spend a week at Edisto with a large group of friends (most of whom are teachers). After months of anticipation and lots and lots of packing and lists we head to Edisto to just hang out and have fun together before having to return to the grind of the school year. Our group is so large now, 15 adults and 7 children, that we have to rent two houses. All the families with kids stay in one house together. This year we decided to splurge and stay beach front. Boy, was it worth every penny. We were literally steps from the beach, and it was so much easier getting the kids and all the beach paraphernalia back and forth. This week was also special because we got to celebrate our friend David's birthday with him. Needless to say, the kids loved the idea of cake and ice cream. I have decided to capture what I love about our annual Edisto trip in a top ten list. Also, check out some of the great pictures we got during the week and the video clip of David's birthday celebration. I can't wait until next year!
Edisto Top Ten:
10.) Stopping at the Dairy Queen in Walterboro to get a blizzard or cone before we head out on the country roads heading back to the beach.
9.) Driving down the oak lined roads leading back to Edisto Island. You truly do feel like you are traveling back in time.
8.) Waiting to see how the Mystery Tree in one of the marshes leading to the island will be decorated this year (see article)
7.) Stopping at the Piggly Wiggly before heading to the rental house to pick up those last few items that we forgot to bring (usually we end up buying lots of junk).
6.) Hearing Madeleine get so excited about seeing the ocean after all the anticipation leading up to our trip.
5.) Listening to the all of the kids playing downstairs...and not fighting!
4.) Waking up on the first beach morning and lubing up with the first coat of sunscreen.
3.) Taking showers outside and not worrying about your hair or makeup all week.
2.) Hanging out on the back porch with friends after the kids are in bed and watching the moonlight shine on the ocean.
1.) Sharing all the food and fun with good friends while making memories that will last a lifetime.
